Let’s jump right into the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 2 tbsp “imitation vanilla butter & nut” flavoring” or extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 (4 oz) jar maraschino cherries, drained and chopped

Directions:

  1. Lightly grease and flour a 10 inch bundt pan
  2. Add butter, shortening, sugar, and vanilla flavoring to a medium bowl, creaming together.
  3. One at a time, beat in the eggs. Once combined, stir in the evaporated milk.
  4. Mix in 2 ⅓ cup flour and ¼ teaspoon salt, stirring well.
  5. Toss ⅓ cup flour with chopped walnuts in a small bowl, eventually adding the mixture to the batter. Combine well.
  6. Fold in chopped maraschino cherries until just combined.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared 10 inch bundt pan.
  8. Place cake in cold oven, heating the oven to 300 ℉ (150 ℃). Bake for 2.5 hours. Allow to cool completely (approximately 15-20 minutes) before removing from the pan.
